Happy Australia Day!
How will you be spending the long weekend? For me… I’ll be at the Wollongong Hawks game tonight before heading to Sydney to spend the weekend with amigos. This week felt a bit… weird. You know those weeks where it passes by really quickly but you also feel like everything just dragged on? Yea… that was this week. Plus, school started again so that means trying to get into the groove and getting used to new professors and how they handle their courses (not easy when all your classes are online). But I shall power through!
Super Bowl Advertising Rates Top The Stock Market – Mike Ozanian, Forbes Sportsmoney. How cool is it that the NFL does better than the S&P 500? For the past 47 years?
Your Essential 5 New Years Resolutions For The Sports Business Industry – Glen Critchley, Sports Business Insider. If I were in the industry, these would be my resolutions! Since you know how much I love the new year, let me just say that this is the perfect time to re-prioritize and organize your goals. You should be doing that all year, but in case you don’t… I love that this article gives you 5 things you should be doing to maintain your company’s image.
Blundstone Arena boost for Kangaroos, Hobart – Ben Collins, AFL. This is a very, very, VERY interesting article. Especially because it’s completely backwards – building and upgrading stadiums DOES NOT encourage tourism and hasn’t proved beneficial to … any state or town. Ever. It’s so sad because I want the AFL to be smarter than that (Although, this does shed some light on the fact that they’re having a ton of financial trouble…) Expect a blog post on this sometime soon.
The Affairs of the State – Footy Maths. Since they weren’t in my Best of Week last week (apologies!) I’m including them this week! This is a nice summary of what’s going to happen in the AFL before (hopefully) the start of the 2013 season. In one place – which beats having to check the million AFL articles on their website!
First-down line could be coming to NFL stadiums – David Ginsburg, Katu. It’s been talked about for year and years and I’ve thought this was genius from day one. There’s still tons of controversy and people aren’t totally sold, but it’ll happen. Think of the sponsorship possibilities!
Azarenka Cops Ribbing After Hitting Panic Button – Linda Pearce, Sydney Morning Herald. I hate to be that girl who is mean to other girls (we have enough problems – do we really need other women hating on us?) but this whole thing was a hot mess. And it seems a bit like cheating to me… Thoughts?
As always, I’d love to hear what stories caught your eye this week! But if you’re too busy at the pub for Australia Day, then I completely understand. Have a great weekend all!
