I read somewhere that 7th February is the New Years Resolution Cliff – that most people who keep up their resolutions until that day, actually keep them up for the year. So this is your check in: HOW ARE YOU DOING ON YOUR RESOLUTIONS?! I’m still at mine…
On a more serious note, this was a ridiculous week in sport. Not only was the Super Bowl early in the week, but the Essendon-supplements thing happened, followed by a shocking realization that the whole Australian sporting world is involved in organized crime (that probably not true, but that’s what everyone is making it sound like). And you know what else? I signed up for AFL Dream Team this week. It has been 5 days… and I can already feel other aspects of my life started to falter. Way to ruin a life, AFL.
Without further ado, here are my favourite articles this week.
How Super Bowl commercials became a cultural phenomenon – Emily Steel, Financial Times. See? This kinda thing could happen in Australia! … if you wanted it to, of course.
According to Nat: A horse is a horse… Of course… Get stuffed! – Natalie Goronzi, Witsups. As a woman, I am always upset when womens sports are ignored and was even more upset when I found that Black Caviar – yes, the RACEHORSE – was named Sportswoman of the Year. Seriously? It’s just ridiculous. And Goronzi show you how ridiculous.
An Open Letter To Danny Ainge – Luke Bloomfield, Thought Catalog. Thought Catalog is not known for it’s sporting intelligence, but I really like this one. Like the author, I too have been crossing my fingers that Ainge doesn’t lose his mind and trade Pierce and KG. They keep the team together and while, yes, they are aging, they are still killing it (minus KG’s perpetual injuries). Why get rid of them?
Is X-Games To Blame? – Morgan Ryan, Babes Dig Balls. A pretty confronting piece on the X-Games and how they contributed to the death of Caleb Moore (snowmobile). I mean… there are rules in place and athletes know the risk. But should the risk really be that high?
Full Statement From the AFL – AFL. Here’s what the AFL had to say about the investigation of organised crime in Australia. I’m hoping to do an analysis of this sometime next week…
Anything massive that I missed? How did you like the Super Bowl and everything else that went down this week? Is your head spinning like mine?
