I really, REALLY did not want to write a post about Stephen Milne. Primarily because this is a Sydney sports blog but also because it’s none of my business – right now everything is just hearsay and it’s not my place to judge him.
But then I went on Twitter. Aaaaaaand I got upset.
You see, some things have been going on in the US recently about rape and I have been reading lots of articles about the topic. The more articles I read, the more frustrated I get. I am so sick of people blaming women for rape. Seriously – it’s just ridiculous.
But some people have taken this a bit far – they think it’s funny. Am I the only person who thinks that rape isn’t funny at all?
And I don’t really care if he has a family. People need to be punished when they’ve done something wrong, regardless.
I am not going to bother giving my opinion on St. Kilda (good work from them), Nick Riewoldt, Nick Dal Santo, or even Stephen Milne because, like I said, it’s not my place to judge. But I will say that rape is not funny. People need to stop making jokes about it – no matter how many puns you can come up with.
Just a note: good work from the women in the Twittersphere who let people know that it’s not funny. Keep at it!
