The reign is over. Andrew Demetriou will leave the AFL after this season.
So how are we all feeling about this? Well, I don’t know how you’re feeling but I’ll tell you how I’m feeling. Sorta.
Now, I know we’ve talked about how I have strong opinions and we all know you should never bash your employer on social media (not that the AFL is my employer… at the moment) so I’m not going to.
In fact, I’ll make this a short post because of all of my opinions… I don’t have very many nice ones.
I just have one question: with all this going on with ASADA and Essendon and the fact that everyone is judging him because he continues to pay James Hird even though he’s suspended for misbehaving… is this the right time for the CEO of the AFL to be resigning?
Not to mention, with loads of clubs in shambles (financially) shouldn’t you at least stick around to finish what you started?
Because it seems to me like resigning is the perfect way to distract people from the naughty things that are going on with the AFL, while getting people to look at your accomplishments, instead of your failures.
He said he hopes that the Essendon “scandal” (I hate that word – it was drugs, not a congressmen found in a hotel room with women who aren’t his wife) doesn’t taint his legacy but I mean, really? If you didn’t want your time as CEO associated with one of the biggest (and worst) things to happen to the sport, don’t you think you should have settled it before you gave up the position?
Maybe he has personal reasons. I don’t know. But frankly… there are better times.
Like, for instance… when I was ready to take the job. God, Andrew, couldn’t you have waited 20 years until I had enough experience?
Some people can be so selfish.
(Wow, wasn’t my blog so much better before I started caring what people thought?)
